Mayor Attends 2019 Reborn Fest – Zero Waste Concert
Taiwan’s inaugural Zero Waste Concert – Reborn Fest took place in Xinyi District in Taipei on July 13 and 14. Mayor Ko Wen-je attended the function on July 14, dressed as a stylish middle-aged man sporting Zero Waste Fashion to support the musicians in their bid to promote the philosophy of zero pollution. He also hopped on the iRent electric scooter and urged citizens to support the zero waste initiative.
During his speech, Ko welcomed everyone to come to the Chianti Plaza in Xinyi District to participate in the 2019 Reborn Fest - Zero Waste Concert. The event is co-hosted by the Department of Cultural Affairs of Taipei City Government and the Wow Taiwan.
The concept of zero waste conveyed by the Reborn Fest is identical to the Taipei City Government’s philosophy in sustainability and environmental protection. Over recent years, the city government has banned the use of disposable tableware and concentrated on minimizing waste.
Ko mentioned the 3R concept (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle); reduce refers to reducing consumption, minimizing the quantity of unnecessary products at home, and only purchasing those that you will need; reuse is to let someone else use the things that you no longer need; and recycle is to modify items that can be used for other purposes.
Lastly, the mayor stated that the concert is organized to promote environmental protection and sustainability among citizens, so everyone is welcome to bring the things that are no longer needed at home to the Shinkong Mitsukoshi Xinyi Plaza on Sunday afternoon to exchange them with others, thereby giving the unwanted goods a new purpose.
