Debut of Taipei Pavilion at Smart City Exhibition The Key to Pandemic Control is Technology
The proliferation of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has prevented face-to-face meetings between countries, but the Smart City Exhibition is not deterred by the pandemic. The 2020 Smart City Online Exhibition has opened today (2nd) and Taipei City Government adopted the prior experience of successfully holding virtual live broadcasts of the Smart City Mayors' Summit to introduce the 2020 Taipei Pavilion this year. The exhibition debuts to the world in the form of an interactive website and the general public is invited to participate in the exhibition connecting to the world.
Both an opening and awards ceremony were held at the 2020 Smart City Online exhibition today. Deputy Mayor Shan-Shan Huang was invited to deliver a speech for the event. She said, "The Smart City Exhibition was able to define a new set of values in response to the post-pandemic period. The alternative approach this year brought about digital transformation for the exhibition, meetings and business match-making activities. The Taipei Pavilion will also introduce its three themes, "Pandemic Control by Technology," "1+7 Fields in Smart Taipei" and "Discover Taipei" to showcase the collaboration results of various city government agencies and industry players."
The 2020 Taipei Pavilion Online adopts a warm-hearted and adorable design style for illustrations. The 1+7 Fields in Smart Taipei theme presents solutions to eight main fields, covering smart applications in traffic, education, health, government, buildings, environment, economy and security. For example, smart economy proposes the Easy Wallet solution, in which smart phones are used for payment convenience. Smart traffic is an innovative experimental program for self-driving buses which tests autonomous driving at night along Xinyi Road, and the service will be offered to the general public for test rides. As for smart buildings, the Guan-Chi smart public housing management platform has incorporated various smart systems to improve the work efficiency of households in the buildings. The solution has claimed the Innovative Application Award in the smart building category of this year's Smart City Exhibition, and the award was presented by the vice president in person.
"Pandemic Control by Technology" has become the core issue of this year. The Department of Information Technology introduced the technological pandemic control strategy during this period, including the Real Name Registration Face Mask Vending Machine, in which an identity-based registration system is integrated with cashless payment to provide the public with a way to buy face masks with diverse payment options, thereby reducing the risks brought about by physical contact with money. A Real Name Registration check-in system enables users to use their personal IDs or predetermined QR code for check-in and admission to public venues, reinforcing the government's pandemic control efforts. The COVID-19 information dashboard helps the city government of Taipei to analyze various data related to the pandemic, including the quantity of face masks available, disinfection operations, monitoring of public opinions and more to obtain the most up-to-date information on pandemic control and make effective allocation of resources.
In addition, the "Discover Taipei" program targets tourists who are not able to visit Taipei during the pandemic. The site features 720-degree panoramic view, VR360 and films introducing various attractions, including the seven major tourist spots such as Taipei 101, Twatutia District, Ximen, Lungshan Temple, Zhongshan, Songshan Cultural and Creative Park and the North Gate (Beimen), allowing the whole world to appreciate the beauty of the city online. These measures are implemented in the hope of attracting more people from Taiwan and abroad to tour Taipei in person after the lifting of travel restrictions, injecting new life into the tourism industry.
